Fastest Rugby Player

One of the questions everyone wonder who is the fastest in the world of rugby? From legends like Lomu to todays Habana.

Who is the worlds the fastest, listed is each players time and there source. Lets get to the bottom of this popular question!

Note: Most of the times are not recorded recently which makes who is the fastest a large speculation game. There is more to rugby then just speed like acceleration, balance, vision, anticipation, instincts, endurance, psychology and many other elements.

#1 Fastest Rugby Player Toderai Chavanga

10.27 seconds 100m

400m Zimbabwe previous record holder.

Team: Springboks, South Africa

During the Super 14 last year i remember him out-pacing Rococoko and in the video Sivavatu gives up! Hope to see more of this guy, he still has along way to go to prove himself but holds great promise.

Videos:

  1. Sivavatu giving up, quite unbelievable. Sivavatu is as fast or if not faster then Rokocoko
  2. 6 try Debut for the springboks tho against Uruguay.

#2nd Fastest Rupeni Caucau (2nd Best Wing) FIJI

100m Unknown

Time is unknown but he is the fastest person my eyes have seen on the rugby field. Speed wasn’t his only attribute he showed up world class player and running through whole team like no one else. I rate Caucau the best winger better then Lomu its too bad we never saw his full potential.

My opinion definately the best player to grace the field better then Lomu.

  2. Rupeni running through France in the world cup
  3. Speed strength only Caucau would score
  4. Embarassing a wallaby and 3 defenders then toying with Tiquiri
  5. Embarassing wallaby Rathbone who runs 40m in 4.6 and Brumbies team in jogging mode.
  6. 3 tries vs Crusaders tearing them apart himself

#3 Brian Habana Springboks (Best winger currently)

10.4 seconds 100m

Source: Telegraph UK

“Habana weighs 14 stone and is 5ft 11in but can bench-press 25 stone.” The best wing in the game at the moment.

#4 Takudzwa Ngwenya U.S Eagles

10.5 seconds 100m

Source: USA Rugby

“Running the 100m dash in 10.5 seconds and setting a high school record.”

Famous for burning Habana in the world cup it was amazing, he’s got a unique stepping style.

  1. Burning Habana :D i bet he regret showing him the sideline

#5 Joe Rokocoko NZ All Blacks

10.66 100m

he can run 40m in just 4.66 seconds! He’s even faster than his fellow team-mate and winger Doug Howlett, and he can run the 100m in 10.66!”

Rokocoko is featured in alot of videos on youtube.

William Ryder

Fastest player in Rugby Sevens for Fiji. He could be faster then Toderai Chavanga. Theres plenty more of him on youtube.

Jason Robinson, England

I’ve added a dedicated area for Jason Robinson he might not be the fastest over 100m. He’s definitely one of the most dangerous players in 40m and fastest over 10m allowing him to always beat his man.

FASTEST Recorded 40m: Soseni Anesi 4.53 40m (Chiefs)

Fastest: William Ryder (my opinion)

Jason Robinson, England

If you have any times with sources and speed of the players post it as a comment and i will add it on the web page.

Mikaele Pesamino was top tryscorer 06/07 IRB Sevens, he was also Samoa’s fastest

    If he makes the Auckland

here are the fastest players according to EA and the rating that they gave them
    in Rugby 08…

    D.Ohata (Japan)- 98
    R.Caucaunibuca (Fiji)- 97
    R.Randle (New
    Zealand)- 96
    D.Howlett (New Zealand)- 95
    B.Paulse (South Africa)- 95
    B.Habana
    (South Africa)- 94
    L.Tuqiri (Australia)- 93
    T.Varndell (England)- 93
    J.Robinson
    (England)- 92

of cors this is just a game but its interesting to no what ea’s
    opinion is

in my opinion…caucau was the fastest (when he was fit) followed by
probably either habana or chavhanga…robinson number 1 for acceleration and
fastest legs on any player…but i love how caucau runs…takes good long
strides…if habana ran like that he would be even faster

    Rugby player vs track sprinter

I know from experiance that just because you have the best 100m track time does
not always translate to being the fastest on the field. For a start try running
100m time trial with a rugby ball under your arm.
    Rokockoko had a faster time
at training than Caucaunibuca when they played together for the Blues. Rupeni
was by far the more explosive & dangerouse come game time.Rupeni was known to be
a lazy trainer. Setivini & Rokockoko both rate him the best. His skills at pace
were freakish.I witnessed Caucauinbuca cover 12m in 5 huge steps while stooping
to pick up the ball.Watch the clock in the try vs the Chiefs. At 00.26 standing
start 45m out. 5.5 seconds later he has scored in the corner. Now add the fact
he stepped sideways, delicately kicked ahead dodged past the defence ,won the
race to the ball, bent to pick up, stepped again & swerve around the fullback &
ahead of a chasing wing to cover no less than 50m total shows some…

U cant deny rupeni being the best winger of all time. If Setivini & Rokockoko
consider him to be the best than why even argue lol. In terms of speed he is
freky fast 4 his size. He is probably the fastest guy in rugby.

  34. Joss:

one thing is that Bryan Habana would beat Jason Robinson (and i am English, but i support New Zealand cos my mum is a kiwi) an two Joe Rocokoko would beat them both  ! So listen england chariots you are completely wrong so shut up  !

  35. Bob branson:

iam not being funny but 100m time is so different to 40m and 20m jason and shane
are the quickest over 40m and 20m infacet jason over 100m was the slowest in the
englands back line up but easyly quickest over 40m and habana over 100m is the fastest apart from Toderai Chavanga but running on a track is different i myself clock in at 11.30 and iam 16 and 5ft7 but on a pitch iam quicker and run 20m standing start in 2.81 so all this rubbish about whos the fastest it means nothing really the best wingers have too have other attributes aswell such as brain habanas strenght and jason robinsons step x

  36. grant - Toderai much faster:

Caucau was never really tested over 100m, he didn’t need to..he beat so many people in just one run, he never had to outpace the opposition backs because he could easily side step them and score. the try in the 2003 RWC against france is probably one of the few times he actually put on the gas. Caucau could definitely do 10 seconds flat but the fact is superspeed wasn’t his only talent like it is for habana, ngwenya or chavangha. He was the most naturally gifted player and he didn’t only have speed, he had brains. He could easily outpace the fastest in rathbone, tuqiri, vunibaka, howlett, sivivatu or rokocoko. he was a FREAK. the only other player i have seen who plays exactly like caucau is league player and newcastle knights winger, Akuila Uate who may be as gifted as caucau. One player the list didn’t state is Sireli Bobo who I believe is much faster than Chavangha and could easily clock 10 seconds flat. NO winger in history has ever been able to catch him in 7′s or 15′s once he finds a gap and open ground…no one…

Rupeni caucau is the best winger of all time. Who cares what times they ran on a track??? tom varndell would probably smoke most people on the track, he doesnt do that on the pitch! Rupeni – On the pitch hes the quickest player i have ever seen.

  46. November 14, 2009

they are all very very close, but speed varies, one day you might run say 11 sec, the next you run 10.9

watch ussain bolt, he s the fastest man, but he doesn’t always win, sometimes it varies.

they are all in very close competition.

i know a kid who is 12, 2 years below me, who is about 150 cm tall, and runs 11.2 seconds. if he gets taller and keeps training, he is going to be mighty fast i think.

myself being only 158 cm 15 yrs old can run 12.2 seconds, and i have another foot to grow. having a very tall father, and grandfather, hopefully i can put on some more speed.

  47. November 14, 2009

caucau is m y favourite, he never went full pace, he just sprinted, ran in-feild stepped/passed, got the pass back stepped again, shame he always missed his games for fiji, and he got sick and lost 10+ kilos

Simon Geoghegan was one of the fastest players: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lc2VZb1Fm2g. Brian Habanna was caught by Fainifo of the Brumbies at the last super 14. Also Sean Maitland of the Canterbury Crusaders is very quick.

  50. SG:
    December 21, 2009

    Quickest over 40, probly
    Shane Williams
    Jason Robinson and the like,

    Quickest over 100, probly
    Chavanga
    Brian Habana
    Ngwenya ect

But at the end of the day the best winger would be

    Jonah Lomu

Put it this way, NONE of those players no matter how fast could mark him and expect to tackle him, he could beat any of them with a huge fend or step or just trample over effortlessly.

    Fact. :!:
